- Minimum Qualification :
The Road Construction Site Engineer is the primary technical and supervisory figure on a road construction project site. They are responsible for translating engineering designs and blueprints into physical structures. This involves coordinating daily activities, managing labor and resources, ensuring quality control, and enforcing safety regulations to meet project specifications and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Planning and Oversight:
o Interpret and implement engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications for road and highway projects.
o Plan and coordinate daily on-site construction activities, including setting out the site layout, levels, and boundaries.
o Monitor project progress against the schedule and report any delays or issues to the Project Manager.
- Technical and Quality Assurance:
o Act as the main technical adviser on the site for subcontractors, craftspeople, and operatives.
o Perform regular site inspections to ensure the work is carried out according to design specifications and quality standards.
o Conduct or oversee quality checks, including material testing (e.g., soil compaction, concrete strength, asphalt composition) to ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO).
o Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems that arise during construction.
- Resource and Financial Management:
o Oversee the requisition and management of construction materials, ensuring they meet quality standards and are delivered on time.
o Manage and supervise on-site labor and subcontractors, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
o Prepare and maintain accurate project documentation, including site diaries, progress reports, and material logs.
- Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:
o Enforce strict health and safety protocols and regulations on the site to maintain a safe working environment.
o Conduct safety briefings and inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
o Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
- Communication and Collaboration:
o Liaise with a wide range of stakeholders, including clients, architects, project managers, other engineers, and regulatory bodies.
o Attend and lead regular project meetings to discuss progress, issues, and upcoming tasks.
o Communicate technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
Experience: Proven experience as a site engineer in road, highway, or other civil infrastructure projects.
Technical Skills:
o Strong knowledge of road construction methods, materials, and techniques.
o Proficiency with surveying and setting out instruments (e.g., total station, GPS).
o Familiarity with relevant engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Primavera P6).
o Understanding of civil engineering principles, quality control, and safety regulations.
- Core Competencies:
o Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
o Strong organizational and project management skills.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
