Responsibilities
To provide patient care, the Caregiver assists the patient with:
- Rendering personal care; bed bathing and or assisted bathroom bath.
- Eating (support patient during feed-time).
- Change patient's soiled diapers, Incopad, slide sheet and bed linen.
- Assist patient use the convenience.
- Transferring patient using the Glide/Slide sheet and hoist to facilitate ambulating.
- Communication: Identify patient's hobbies and often engage them in activities that is of interest to him/her, example, play games, watch television programs, play music that patient love listening to, miming, storytelling, et-cetera.
To provide for patient comfort, the Caregiver, should:
- Create a positive home-like environment by responding to patient's need promptly, respect his/her privacy.
- Help patient develop trust.
- Patient's confidentiality is vital. However, if information received will cause harm to patient, colleague, family member or lead to adverse event, please EXPLAIN why it is IMPORTANT to escalate such information.
- Offer emotional support and work with the family: show empathy and use appropriate word peculiar to patient's condition.
- Communicate effectively and actively listen.
To provide for patient safety, the caregiver, must:
- Follow Infection Prevention /Control practices: using personal protective equipment such as face mask, hand glove, when hands are visibly soiled with patient body fluid, wash hands with soap under running water before and after attending to patients, and or use hand sanitizer, proper waste segregation, putting soiled and dirty clothes in separate laundry bags.
- Maintain a clean, safe environment and report safety problems immediately.
- Perform procedures correctly, following, "Standard of Practice" example, bed or assisted, bathroom bath, oral care, patient feeding, 2-hourly changing of patient's position, preparing wound dressing gauze.
Requirements
The ideal candidate must possess the following requirements:
- A Care giver's certificate.
- 1-3 Years of working experience as a care giver.
- Must reside around Lekki-Ajah axis due to proximity.
