About the Role

Our client, a reputable manufacturing company within the specialty chemicals sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Analytical Chemist to lead their Quality Control laboratory. This critical role is based in Calabar, Cross River, NG , and will be responsible for ensuring the quality and consistency of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products through the application of sophisticated analytical techniques. Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and perform a wide range of analytical tests on raw materials, intermediates, and finished products using techniques such as HPLC, GC, GC-MS, LC-MS, FTIR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and titration.
  • Develop, validate, and transfer analytical methods according to relevant pharmacopeial standards (e.g., USP, EP) or industry best practices.
  • Interpret analytical data, troubleshoot instrumentation issues, and ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration, maintenance, and performance qualification.
  • Manage laboratory operations, including sample tracking, data management, and inventory control.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, GMP if applicable) and regulatory requirements.
  • Train and mentor junior analytical chemists and technicians.
  • Investigate out-of-specification (OOS) results and customer complaints, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives by providing analytical support and data interpretation.
  • Prepare and review analytical reports, Certificates of Analysis (CoAs), and other quality documentation.
  • Stay updated on new analytical technologies and regulatory changes relevant to the industry in Calabar, Cross River, NG .
Requirements
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in analytical chemistry, with at least 3 years in a Quality Control setting, preferably in pharmaceuticals or specialty chemicals.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation, particularly HPLC, GC, and spectroscopic techniques.
  • Proficiency in method development, validation, and transfer according to ICH guidelines or similar.
  • Strong understanding of quality control principles, GMP, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent data analysis and interpretation skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) is desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a systematic approach to investigations.
